Simplified Wreck Survey

UK Hydrographic Office survey records for the underwater wreck Johan Collett possibly located at coordinates 49 39.19 N, 3 0.37 W show a history of charting, position updates, and eventual disproval. Initially charted as a non-dangerous wreck in 1976 and updated on British charts through 1980, the wreck position was subsequently amended following a 1981 survey by HMS St David using HIFIX. French wreck records from 1988 identified the obstruction as the Johan Collett. However, during a 2001 hydrographic survey by Gardline, the wreck was not located and was officially disproved and classified as dead on standard British charts.

BUILT IN 1956 BY P LINDENAU OF KEIL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY A COLLETT. LISTED HEAVILY WHEN CARGO SHIFTED. CREW OF 25 RESCUED. TAKEN IN TOW BY M TUG 'ABEILLE NO 10', THE CARGO HOLED THE VESSEL WHICH SANK IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. PASSAGE SANT' ANTIOCO, SARDINIA, TO GHENT. CARGO ZINC ORE. (MARINE CASUALTIES).
