Simplified Wreck Survey

Wreck of the James Turpie located at coordinates 54 8.242 S, 36 41.192 W in South Georgia. The steel hull wreck lies on its port side in general depths of 7.5 meters and dries 0.5 meters. The approximately 80-meter-long vessel features open empty wood decks, an intact engine and propeller, and a main mast projecting across the harbour. Identified by name on the bow with bows facing WNW, the site is heavily covered in kelp.

EXAMINED BY DIVER. IDENTIFIED BY NAME ON BOW. LENGTH APPROX 80MTRS. LYING ON PORT SIDE, BOWS WNW. ENGINES & PROP INTACT. CABLES LAID OUT FWD & AFT ON TO BEACH, THOUGH THEY DISAPPEAR INTO THE BEACH MATERIAL BELOW LW LINE. WOOD DECKS WITH HOLDS OPEN & EMPTY. MAIN MAST STILL ATTACHED MIDSHIPS, PROJECTING ACROSS HARBOUR. FIRST SIGHTED FROM SHORE BY ANDY WILLETT, UKHO, WHILST ATTACHED TO HMS ENDURANCE. (HMS ENDURANCE, HI 679). BR STD.
