H1310/82/32 13.10.82 SEARCHED FOR 25.9.82 AROUND W SIDE OF BELL ROCK. ONLY PARTS FOUND WERE V SHALLOW, IN GULLEYS, TOWARDS THE REEF AND COVERED BY ROCKS. APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN WELL FLATTENED BY THE SEA. HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT ANY WRECKAGE STANDS HIGH ENOUGH TO BE MORE OF A DANGER TO SHIPPING THAN THE REEF ITSELF. (W MURNEY, 3.10.82 & 23.10.82). AMEND TO NDW. BR STD. HH091/152/01 17.6.08 NOT LOCATED BY M/B. DCS3 NOT USED DUE TO SHALLOW WATER. (GARDLINE HYDRO, HI 1152). AMEND DEAD. BR STD.

A 'DEVONSHIRE' CLASS CRUISER. BUILT IN 1904 BY SCOTTS, GREENLOCK. 23 BOILERS, TWO TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINES, TWIN SHAFT. 4 X 7.5 INCH, 6 X 6 INCH, 20 X 3PDR 5 X MACHINE GUNS, 2 TORPEDO TUBES. FITTED WITH 6665 TONS ARMOUR PLATE. BECAME TOTAL LOSS AFTER FOUNDERING ON BELL ROCK DURING NIGHT EXERCISES. THE LIGHT WAS BLACKED OUT. PASSAGE DEVONPORT FOR SCAPA FLOW. ALL 655 CREW RESCUED BY DESTROYERS. (WW1SL & SIBI).
