BUILT OF IRON IN 1864 BY GIBBS, BRIGHT & CO, BRISTOL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY MERCHANS TRADING CO LTD. PASSAGE LONDON FOR SYDNEY, NSW. RAN ON TO CHESIL BEACH, DURING STRONG SW'LY GALE AND BROKE UP IMMEDIATELY. MANY CASES OF SPIRITS WERE WASHED ASHORE AND BROKEN OPEN BY ONLOOKERS. BY DAYLIGHT IT WAS FOUND 20 HAD DIED OF EXCESS ALCHOHOL. OF 35 PASSENGERS, 32 CREW, SIX DROWNED. (DODS).
