Simplified Wreck Survey
SS Polo shipwreck details and historical survey data located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Algeria. The wreck of the SS Polo was historically reported at coordinates 36 43.183 N, 5 6.3 E. Initial 1943 survey reports noted the vessel sank with a heading of 270 degrees and masts visible above the waterline. Subsequent hydrographic surveys throughout the 20th century recorded the wreck at a depth of 7.2 meters. Following later assessments and official maritime notices, the wreck of the SS Polo was officially classified as dead and removed from hydrographic charts in November 2008.

BUILT IN 1919 BY SWAN HUNTER & WIGHAM RICHARDSON LTD, SUNDERLAND. ORIGINALLY LAID DOWN AS 'WAR HUMBER', A COASTAL STANDARD SHIP, BUT COMPLETED AS 'POLO'. VESSEL WAS AFIRE IN BOUGIE HARBOUR (BEJAIA) & WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SUNK BY GUNFIRE. (BRITISH STANDARD SHIPS WWI VOL.3).
