Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck AFRIDI is located off the coast of North East England near the Tees South Gare Breakwater at coordinates 54 39.575 N, 1 5.54 W. Historically identified as an underwater obstruction, the wreck site has undergone significant changes over time. Following its initial sinking, the wreck was examined by divers and reported as dispersed and flattened near the seabed, having become heavily sanded up. Modern multibeam hydrographic surveys conducted between 2017 and 2018 failed to locate the wreckage, resulting in the site being officially classified as dead or removed from navigational records. The remains, previously identified as a submerged wreck and later as foul ground, are no longer considered a hazard to navigation at this location.
