Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck NEMOS is located off the coast of El Jadida, Morocco, at coordinates 33 15 N, 8 28.5 W. This underwater obstruction consists of a vessel broken into two distinct sections. The forepart and number one hold are grounded and anchored approximately 200 to 300 meters from the shoreline. The afterpart, which includes the engine room, number two hold, and accommodation area, is grounded with the stern facing the shore at a distance of 500 to 600 meters from the coastline, with its main deck positioned one meter below sea level. The wreckage debris and cargo from the NEMOS are scattered over an area spanning approximately four kilometers. This maritime hazard is documented in survey records, though it is not currently reflected on French chart 7551. Historical data indicates the vessel ran aground in March 1986.

Circumstances of loss

ANCHORED OFF EL JADIDA TO RELASH AND SECURE DECK CARGO WHICH HAD PREVIOUSLY SHIFTED IN HEAVY SEAS. DEVELOPED SUDDEN LIST, WAS ABANDONED BY CREW, CAPSIZED AND BROKE IN TWO AMIDSHIPS. PASSAGE KRIBI FOR HUELVA, VIA LAS PALMAS.
