Simplified Wreck Survey

The underwater shipwreck known as the Meduse is located at coordinates 33 8.55 N, 8 36.9 W in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco. This historic wreck site was originally reported as a French submarine lost in March 1956. Hydrographic records from the UK Hydrographic Office note various historical survey positions between 1972 and 1983, including reports at 33 09.00N, 08 38.30W and 33 08.42N, 08 37.00W. Following a review in November 2016, the site status was amended to dead, as the obstruction is no longer identified on contemporary French nautical charts or satellite imagery. The Meduse remains a significant point of interest for maritime history research and wreck documentation in these North Atlantic waters.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1930. WAS BEACHED S OF CAP BLANC DU NORD AFTER BEING BADLY DAMAGED BY DEPTH CHARGES FROM US NAVY DESTROYERS. (FRENCH WARSHIPS OF WW2, & THE FRENCH NAVY VOL 2).
