Circumstances of loss

15.4.46 BUILT IN 1943/44 BY WALSH KAISER CO, PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND AS USS HOWETT. THREE BOILERS, TWIN RECIPROCATING ENGINES FOR 5500HP, TWIN SHAFT FOR 18 KNOTS. 3 X 3 INCH, 4 X 40MM BOFORS IN TWIN MOUNTINGS, 4 X 20MM OERLIKONS, DEPTH CHARGE RAILS & HEDGEHOG, 64 DEPTH CHARGES. ALLOCATED TO THE RN UNDER 'LEND-LEASE'. RETURNED TO US CUSTODY 15.4.46 AND SOLD FOR SCRAPPING TO BALTIMORE METALS. SOLD IN 1946 TO EGYPT AND TAKEN OVER BY THE KHEDIVAL MAIL LINE AS SS MALROUK. SOME YEARS LATER WAS ACQUIRED THE THE EGYPTINN NAVY, RE-ARMED AND COMMISSIONED AS MISR. SANK FOLLOWING COLLISION. (P COLLINS). SANK FOLLOWING COLLISION WITH SWEDISH TANKER JAGUAR. (LL). SCUTTLED AS BLOCKSHIP IN THE SUEZ CANAL IN 1956. (WIKIPEDIA).
