Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck Lorle is an underwater obstruction located at coordinates 49 47.337 N, 5 14.311 W, approximately 12 miles south-southwest of The Lizard off the coast of Cornwall. Historically recorded as sunk during World War I in June 1918, this maritime heritage site features a confirmed sonar contact measuring 60 feet in length and 12 feet in height. Over the years, hydrographic surveys by the UK Hydrographic Office tracked the wreck through various positions before it was officially classified as dead and deleted from active charts following a 1989 survey by HMS Bulldog.

VESSEL, BUILT IN 1896 BY IRVINE & CO., WEST HARTLEPOOL AND OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY ALEXANDER SHIPPING CO., WAS TORPEDOED AND SUNK BY GERMAN SUBMARINE UB-103 12M SSW OF THE LIZARD WHILST EN ROUTE FROM BILBAO TO HEYSHAM. 19 LIVES LOST. (LL WW1, DODS & SHIPWRECK INDEX OF THE BRITISH ISLES).
