INTACT STERN SECTION WITH SINGLE PROP. THIS PART IS UPRIGHT AND TERMINATES IN A SINGLE BOILER BEYOND WHICH THE BOW SECTION IS DETACHED AND COLLAPSED. SHELLS OF APPROX 20MM CALIBRE WERE SEEN. A WALKER CHERUB III SHIP'S LOG WAS RECOVERED. THE SERIAL NUMBER INDICATED THAT THIS HAD BEEN ASSEMBLED FOR THE ADMIRALTY ON 12.12.1942. (N R CHIPCHASE, 8.10.97). NCA. BUILT IN 1932 BY SMITH'S DOCK CO, MIDDLESBOROUGH AS 'KOS XVII'. CREWED BY THE ROYAL NORWERIAN NAVY. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINES FOR 12 KNOTS. REQUISITIONED AS A MINESWEEPER IN 1940. BOW MOUNTED 37MM AND 20MM GUNS. TORPEDOED BY E-BOATS OF THE 5TH FLOTILLA WHILST ESCORTING CONVOY WP 300. ALSO LOST WERE THE MV MODAVIA, HMS LORD HAILSHAM AND LCT 381. (N R CHIPCHASE).
