Simplified Wreck Survey

The underwater wreck of the vessel Gerhalde is located at coordinates 50 55.618 N, 0 46.368 E near Rye Head Pier. Sunk on September 27 1957 approximately 300 yards from Rye Head Pier the site was subsequently investigated by hydrographic surveys including HMS Beagle and EGS. Later surveys in 1970 and 1975 failed to locate the remains with local opinion indicating the vessel had broken up and the status was amended to dead as it is no longer in a navigable area

(SCES SURVEY, 1970). H4959/73 9.4.75 NOT LOCATED, NOT SEARCHED FOR. OUTSIDE SURVEY AREA. (HMS BEAGLE, HI 55/74). AMENDED TO DEAD. 3.12.13 NOT IN NAVIGABLE AREA. (EGS, HI 1312). AMEND DEAD.
