Circumstances of loss

THE VESSEL WAS AT ANCHOR WITH ABOUT 500 PERSONS ABOARD WHEN SHE PARTED FROM HER ANCHORS AND WENT ONTO THE ROCKS UNDER THE CITADEL. WITH SOME DIFFICULTY A LINE WAS GOT TO THE SHIP AND ALL ON BOARD WERE TAKEN ASHORE. VERY SOON AFTERWARDS THE VESSEL BROKE UP. (HISTORY OF SHIPWRECKS VOL II, P256).
