Circumstances of loss

PASSAGE HOOK OF HOLLAND FOR HARWICH. WAS SERIOUSLY DAMAGED IN COLLISION WITH US SS HAITI VICTORY (7067 GT). WAS STRUCK ON THE PORT BOW JUST FWD OF THE BRIDGE, THE BOW SECTION BROKE AWAY AND SANK ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. WAS ABANDONDED BY CREW & PASSENGERS. SOME CREW REBOARDED LASTER, VESSEL REMAINED AFLOAT AND WAS BERTHED IN HARWICH WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THREE TUGS. FIVE LIVES LOST.
