Circumstances of loss

EX-DALKEY CASTLE. BUILT IN 1953 IN LUBECK. EIGHT CYLINDER OIL ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. MACHINERY AFT. PASSAGE DUBLIN FOR FOWEY. RAN AGROUND ON ROCKS AT PEHN BOAR, NEAR BLACK HEAD, ON A DARK EVENING IN POOR VISIBILITY. SHE REFLOATED IN A SHORT TIME BUT WAS FOUND TO BE MAKING WATER WHICH GAVE HER A LIST TO STARBOARD. SHE DRIFTED SOUTHWARD IN A CALM SEA WITH HER ENGINES OUT OF ORDER. IN RESPONSE TO RADIO MESSAGES A COASTAL COMMAND AIRCRAFT, THE LIFEBOAT AND THE MV 'ANTERIORITY' ALL MADE FOR THE SCENE. THE LIFEBOAT WAS ABLE TO PICK UP THE CREW OF 17 WHO HAD TAKEN TO THE BOATS. WHEN THE VESSEL REACHED A LIST OF 40DEGS THE VESSEL TURNED OVER AND SANK. (R HOBBS).
