Simplified Wreck Survey

Underwater shipwreck details for the ZEBRA located at coordinates 49 58.02 N, 5 11.011 W near the waters of Falmouth. Historical records from 1856 note the hull was visible at low water with cargo salvaged in damaged condition. Modern archaeological surveys describe the wreck as very broken up, featuring large plates and ribs held by rock, high-quality brass rods, and a flattened large copper pipe within a hull remnant measuring approximately 55 feet by 15 feet.

(FROM TIMES REPORT, 25.7.1856). H7179/35 27.11.69 APPEARANCE OF WK VERY BROKEN UP. LARGE PLATES AND RIBS SOUNDLY HELD BY ROCK. SEVERAL RODS ABOUT 3FT LONG BY 0.25 INCHES THICK POINTING VERTICALLY. ANALYSIS SHOWS THE HIGH QUALITY BRASS. LARGE COPPER PIPE FLATTENED LYING IN BOTTOM PART OF HULL 5FT HIGH AND 10FT LONG AREA ABOUT 55FT BY 15FT. Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1853 IN GLASGOW. COMPOUND EXPANSION ENGINE OF 260NHP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE LE HAVRE FOR LIVERPOOL. STRUCK ROCKS NEAR LIZARD POINT IN VERY DENSE FOG AND SOON FILLED. CREW AND PASSENGERS RECOVERED. (SIBI).
