Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck XMAS ROSE is an underwater obstruction located off the northeast coast of Scotland in the North Sea at coordinates 57 9.634 N, 2 2.034 W. Originally sinking in August 1979, the site was subsequently salvaged using explosives to remove the wheelhouse and masts, leaving a least depth of 13.4 meters by wire sweep. During a 2011 hydrographic survey using multibeam sonar, the wreck was not located, with only minor scours apparent, indicating the structure has likely collapsed and become buried, currently charted as foul ground.

NE 1446. 17.4.12 NOT LOCATED 9.2011 USING M/B. ONLY TWO MINOR SCOURS APPARENT. (HMSML GLEANER, HI 1360). PROBABLY NOW COLLAPSED AND BURIED. AMEND FOUL. BR STD.

Circumstances of loss

PASSAGE ABERDEEN FOR FISHING GROUNDS. SANK FOLLOWING COLLISION IN THICK FOG WITH MV MERCURIUS. CREW OF SIX RECOVERED. MECURIUS RECEIVED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE. (LL).
