BUILT IN 1869 BY DENTON, HARTLEPOOL. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY R YOUNG. ONE BOILER, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 98HP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE FOR NEW YORK. CARGO COAL. PROPELLER SHAFT BROKE IN HEAVY WEATHER. WAS TAKEN IN TOW BY A LIVERPOOL SS, BUT THE TOW PARTED FOUR TIMES. CONTACT WAS LOST DURING A SNOW STORM. DRIFTED TOWARDS THE ISLE OF WIGHT AND GROUNDED AT 0200. CREW RECOVERED.
