The wreck of the vessel WINDGAP is historically recorded at coordinates 51 21.684 N, 1 31.146 E near North Foreland, off the coast of Kent in the English Channel. Initially reported sunk in 1946 approximately 2.9 miles from North Foreland on a bearing of 286 degrees, the site has been the subject of multiple hydrographic surveys. Following initial reports of a wreck, subsequent investigations including echo sounding, drift sweeps, and intensive sonar surveys by the Royal Navy and modern multibeam datasets have consistently failed to locate physical remains. Historical records suggest the obstruction was potentially buried in a scour or misidentified, leading the UK Hydrographic Office to classify the status of the WINDGAP as dead or removed from maritime charts. Modern multibeam survey data from 2019 confirmed no evidence of a wreck or underwater obstruction exists at these coordinates.
