Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck War Grange, located near the coast of Cornwall, England at coordinates 50 29.033 N, 5 3.063 W, has a detailed survey history from the UK Hydrographic Office. Initially reported sunk in May 1918 by the trawler Admiral, subsequent hydrographic surveys by HMS Fox in 1978 found nothing at the site and amended the status to dead. Historical records clarify that the vessel was actually patched up and towed away, with large pieces of twisted metal debris later discovered and removed from Towan Beach in Newquay in 1995. The vessel was later renamed Giglio in 1919 and ultimately wrecked on Les Boeufs Rocks in Noirmoutier, France, in 1928, leading to the wreck status being amended to lifted. Modern multibeam sonar surveys conducted in November 2011 by Fugro OSAE also confirmed that no remains were located at the original reported position.
