Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Hemsley 1 is located at coordinates 50 31.433 N, 5 1.813 W near Fox s Cove and Tregarnon on the coast. Historical survey records detail the salvage and structural description of the wreck. Demolition work started in October 1969. By April 1970, approximately 80 tons of superstructure were removed to the level of the deck, leaving the hull full of sand as salvage companies were unable to remove all remaining parts. A visual inspection in June 1970 reported that all superstructure and the bridge were gone, the bows were cut away, the truck on the deck and most tank tops were removed, and parts of the boiler were exposed, leaving the wreck as nothing more than an open shell. Later reports from December 1978 confirmed that the stern lies among rocks on the coastline at Fox s Cove. The site is not in a navigable area.
