VESSEL, OWNED BY SOCIETE VARIOSE DE TOURISME. ON PASSAGE FROM TOULON TO NEARBY HOLIDAY ISLAND OF PORQUEROLLES. SANK AFTER AN EXPLOSION DUE TO A SHORT-CIRCUIT FIRE IN THE PORT ENGINE. FRENCH TRANSPORT MINISTER HAS ORDERED MARINE INVESTIGATORS TO RAISE FERRY. BELIEVED TO HAVE HAD MORE THAN LEGAL LIMIT OF 300 PASSENGERS, ALLEGED TO HAVE HAD 365 PEOPLE ON BOARD AT TIME OF LOSS. 11 DEAD. (LLOYDS VOL.221).
