Simplified Wreck Survey

The wreck of the German submarine UB 83 is situated at coordinates 58 27.978 N, 1 50.105 W in the North Sea off the coast of Caithness, Scotland, near Wick. Historical records originally listed the sinking position as 58 28.000 N, 01 50.000 W, approximately 42 miles east by south of Wick. Subsequent hydrographic surveys and multibeam sonar searches conducted in November 2012 failed to locate the vessel at the previously suggested locations, leading to the wreck being officially listed as disproved and amended as dead in maritime records. There is a potential historical correlation between this site and another unidentified wreck previously reported at 58 27.470 N, 01 48.510 W.
