Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1958 BY ALFRED HAGESLSTEIN, LUBECK. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ORION SCHIFFAHRTS-GES REITH & CO. PASSAGE FROM REYKJAVIK. STRANDED AT THE ENTRANCE TO RAUFARHOFN HARBOUR. BAD WEATHER CAUSED HOLDS TO FLOOD WITH SEVERE BUMPING ON THE ROCKY BOTTOM. SALVORS UNABLE TO REFLOAT THE VESSEL BUT DUE TO THE DANGER OF BREAKING IN TWO AND SINKING IN THE HARBOUR CHANNEL, SHE WAS TOWED BACKWARDS AND ABANDONED NEAR TO THE SHORE. ABANDONED AS CTL. CREW RECOVERED. (MSD).
