Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck HANS SIF was previously recorded at coordinates 66 32.583 N, 16 11.833 W located off the coast of Iceland. Historical records indicate that the vessel HANS SIF grounded in the region in February 1968. Following a comprehensive data re-assessment, it was confirmed that the vessel was successfully refloated in June 1968, subsequently repaired, and returned to active service. Consequently, the HANS SIF is no longer classified as an underwater obstruction or shipwreck, and the site is officially amended to dead and not charted by the primary hydrographic authority.

BUILT 1966 BY N.V. BODEWES SCHPS., MARTENSHOEK. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY KNUD I. LARSEN. PASSAGE SIGLUFJORD FOR BRIDGEWATER. RAN AGROUND ON THE ROCKS AT RIFSTANGI, ABOUT 800MTRS OFFSHORE. SALVAGE WILL NOT TAKE PLACE AS THE VESSEL IS BADLY HOLED AND THE HOLDS ARE OPEN TO THE SEA. VESSEL REFLOATED JUN '68 & TOWED TO RAUFARHORN. EVENTUALLY REPAIRED & RETURNED TO SERVICE. (MSD).
