Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Shakespeare is located in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland at coordinates 56 8.954 N, 1 54.63 W. This underwater obstruction sits at a depth of 46 meters in a general surrounding depth of 52 meters. The wreckage measures 40 meters in length and 15 meters in width. The Shakespeare lies on an even keel in an upright position, oriented on a 085/265 degree axis with the bow facing 085 degrees. The structural condition shows the upper decking sagging inwards towards the center, with the bridge area disintegrated and debris scattered across the main structure. A distinct V-shaped hole is present on the port side, measuring 5 meters wide at the gunwale, consistent with historical explosive placement. The wreck features a triple expansion engine, a four-bladed propeller, and an anchor remains visible on the bow deck. A minor scour of 1 meter deep surrounds the site. The ship's bell has been previously recovered for identification, and the holds are largely empty with only minor coal remnants. This site is documented as an intact but aging maritime wreck.

FOUR MTRS FROM THE BOW ON THE PORT SIDE THERE IS A 'V'-SHAPED HOLE EXTENDING FROM THE GUNWHALE (IT IS 5MTRS WIDE) TO THE SEABED (1MTR WIDE), WHERE EXPLOSIVES WERE PLACED. WRECKAGE SPILLS OUT INTO THE SCOUR, EXTENDING SOME 4MTRS. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE AND 4-BLADED PROP. ANCHOR ON BOW DECK. BELL RECOVERED FOR IDENTIFICATON.
