Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck Saint Kentigern is located at coordinates 60 2.719 N, 1 22.781 W near Kettla Ness on the coast of West Burra, Shetland. Historically identified as a vessel used for carrying heavy loads and vehicles with an approximate keel to truck measurement of 17 meters, the wreck was reported to have run aground and subsequently sank in the area. Although historical reports placed the wreckage near the inshore waters of Kettla Ness, modern hydrographic surveys conducted in 2010 failed to locate the vessel or any remaining underwater obstruction at the reported site. Consequently, the status of the Saint Kentigern wreck is currently amended to dead, meaning no visible wreckage or underwater hazards have been confirmed by recent maritime surveys at these coordinates.
