Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck Princess Royal is located at coordinates 54 58.503 N, 5 11.251 W along the Ebb Stone Reef. Originally located and identified in 1975 from historical records and a contemporary painting, the wreck lies well scattered in a north to south direction. Depths over the site vary from 5 to 10 meters, with the highest structural parts being the engine cylinders, which stand approximately 2 to 3 meters high in about 8 meters of water. During a modern multibeam survey in June 2017, the wreck was not located, leading to its classification as dead or non-existent.

H1285/75 26.8.75 WRECK LOCATED AND IDENTIFIED IN 545830N, 051111W. (P.C. MILLER, LETTER DTD 18.8.75). H1288/75 18.3.76 WRECK LIES WELL SCATTERED ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE EBB STONE REEF IN A N/S DIRN. DEPTHS VARY FROM 5-10MTRS. HIGHEST POINT IS PROBABLY THE ENGINE CYLINDERS WHICH STAND APPROX 2-3MTRS HIGH IN ABOUT 8MTRS OF WATER. THE WRECK WAS LOCATED & IDENTIFIED FROM A CONTEMPORARY PAINTING & THE NEWSPAPER REPORT OF THE TIME. (P.C.MILLER, LETTER DTD 15.10.75). NCA, POSN 545830N, 051111W FOR FILING ONLY. SEP 2017/000036782 28.6.17 NOT LOCATED IN M/B SURVEY 2017. (MMT, HI 1509). AMEND DEAD.

BUILT 1841 BY TOD & MCGREGOR, PARTICK, GLASGOW, RAN AGROUND IN FOG ON CRAIG LAGGAN ROCKS, 2M S OF CORSEWALL PT. 120 PASSENGERS & CREW RESCUED, & MUCH OF CARGO SALVED. EFFORTS TO REFLOAT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AS VESSEL BROKE IN TWO, BECOMING A TOTAL LOSS. DRAWING OF VESSEL. (CLYDE SHIPWRECKS)
