The PETER HAWKSFIELD wreck is a historically recorded underwater obstruction located in the English Channel near Kingsdown, Kent, at coordinates 51 11.084 N, 1 25.997 E. Originally identified in 1938 as a significant underwater hazard with a least depth of 17 feet in general depths of 56 feet, the site was subjected to dispersion operations in November 1938, which reduced the structure to a least depth of 43 feet. Over subsequent decades, multiple hydrographic surveys, including intensive sonar and magnetometer searches conducted by the Royal Navy and specialized marine survey contractors between 1979 and 2019, failed to locate any remains of the vessel. The area is characterized by heavy trawl scours, and following consistent negative results from modern multibeam datasets and systematic searches, the status of the PETER HAWKSFIELD wreck is officially recorded as dead and disproved. This location off the coast of Kent no longer poses a navigational hazard to maritime traffic.
