Simplified Wreck Survey

Historical hydrographic survey data from the UK Hydrographic Office details an underwater site located at coordinates 50 38.703 N, 0 31.424 W in the English Channel near the Sussex coast east of the Owers Lightvessel. Originally reported as a wreck in 1919 and subsequently marked by a buoy, the charted obstruction underwent multiple official examinations over the decades. Sweeping operations and sonar searches in 1920 and 1976 failed to locate structural remains, leading to the status being amended to dead or non-dangerous. A 2002 echo sounder survey located a localized depth anomaly showing a least depth of 26.3 meters in a general depth of 27 meters. However, a comprehensive multibeam dataset review in 2018 found no artificial wreck structure, identifying a natural rock outcrop instead within a former dredging area, resulting in the site officially being amended back to dead.
