Simplified Wreck Survey

Historic Underwater Wreck Site near Ganinck Island. This underwater obstruction is located off the coast of the Isles of Scilly at coordinates 49 56.445 N, 6 16.381 W. Originally identified as an unknown shipwreck, subsequent surveys by English Heritage confirmed the site consists of a discrete mound of post-1850 Cornish mining equipment lost during transit rather than a traditional ship structure. The site sits approximately 3 meters off the seabed and is protected as a designated historic wreck with a 75-meter restricted radius. Recent multi-beam survey data confirms the mound measures 9 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in height, with a recorded depth of approximately 11.7 meters. The site remains a charted feature but is not considered a danger to modern navigation.
