Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Merwede is located at coordinates 55 38.899 N, 1 28.891 W off the coast of Northumberland in the North Sea. This underwater obstruction sits at a least echo sounder depth of 41 meters within a general water depth of 49 meters. The wreckage of the Merwede measures 77 meters in length and 12 meters in width and is lying in a 165/345 degree orientation with the bow facing 345 degrees. The structural condition of the wreck is described as broken, inverted, and likely separated into two unequal parts with a debris field extending 56 meters towards 246 degrees. A 2-meter deep scour extends 5 meters towards 071 degrees and the site exhibits a strong magnetic anomaly. Detailed surveys confirmed the wreck status using DGPS technology.
