Simplified Wreck Survey
Shipwreck details for the wreck MARIANNA located in the Aegean Sea near the Vrakhoi Amaridhes light. The shipwreck is positioned at coordinates 37 02.716 N, 25 18.945 E. Originally reported aground in 1981 with the bow exposed above the waterline, the wreck lies on a northerly heading and historically obscured the navigation light from the south. Following a collision by the MV BEGONIA in 1982, the site was marked by a south cardinal buoy which was subsequently removed. By 1993, the main structure was no longer visible above the surface, with only the mast remaining as a hazard to navigation. The site is currently classified as a dangerous wreck with a visible mast. Mariners are advised that the wreck structural status has changed over time from a grounded hull to a submerged obstruction. Navigation near these coordinates requires caution due to the potential for underwater wreckage.
