Simplified Wreck Survey
Underwater wreck site of the Kokusei Maru located at coordinates 6 28.16 N, 116 14.46 E in the South China Sea off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia, formerly North Borneo. This badly collapsed shipwreck lies approximately 25 miles west of the city formerly known as Jesselton, now Kota Kinabalu. The site is characterized as a badly broken and deteriorated structure, possibly identified as the Higane Maru or Hiyore Maru. Survey data indicates a minimum depth of 27 meters over the wreck, sitting within a general seabed depth of 38 meters, with a charted depth of 25 meters. The area is frequently marked by numerous fisherman's floats surrounding the obstruction.
