Circumstances of loss

31.1.75 BUILT IN 1966 BY ODENSE STAAALSKIBS A/S, LINDO. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY A P MOLLER. PASSAGE KHARG ISLAND FOR LEIXOES. WAS MANOEUVERING WITH TUGS TO ENTER THE PORT WHEN SHE STRUCK BOTTOM ON A SANDBAR APPROX 55MTRS OFFSHORE. EXPLSIONS OCCURRED IN THE ENGINE ROOM WHICH RIPPED THROUGH THE VESSEL. AN INFERNO ENGULFED THE VESSEL WHICH SANK SOON AFTER. SIX MEN LOST. FURTHER EXPLOSIONS ON 31.1.75 BROKE THE VESSEL IN TWO. HEAVY SEAS DURING FIRST HALF OF FEBRUARY FORCED THE BROKEN-OFF BOW UP ONTO ROCKS S OF LEIXOES HARBOUR. (MSD).
