15.12.73 EX-ADMIRAAL NELSON '69, EX-ADMIRAL NELSON '70. BUILT IN 1949 BY NOORD NED SCHSP, GRONINGEN. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY V F NOLAN, HARTLEPOOL. 6 CYLINDER OIL ENGINE OF 360 BHP, SINGLE SHAFT. MACHINERY AFT. PASSAGE SHARPNESS FOR DROGHEDA. SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE ON 15.12.73 AFTER WATER CONTAMINATION OF FUEL WHILE ROLLING. TAKEN IN TOW BY M TANKER RATHMINES BUT PORT ANCHOR OF TRADER RAN OUT, FOULED THE BOTTOM AND THE TOW WAS LOST. WAS TAKEN IN TOW AGAIN AND REACHED ROSSLARE. SAILED AGAIN 31.1.74 BUT NEXT DAY RAN AGROUND AND FILLED. CREW LANDED IN RAFTS. SUFFERED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE, BROKE HER BACK AND WAS PARTIALLY DISMANTLED ON THE BEACH. (SII).
