Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1918 BY PALMER. WHILST ON ESCORT OPERATION 'DEMON', IN THE COMPANY OF HMS DIAMOND, TOOK OFF 700 TROOPS FROM THE TRANSPORT SLAMAT (WHICH HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY BOMBED AND WAS ON FIRE) IN THE GULF OF NAUPLIA, DURING EVACUATION OF BRITISH FORCES FROM GREECE. BOTH DESTROYERS WERE BOMBED AND SUNK BY GERMAN DIVE-BOMBERS WITH HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE.
