Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1932. WHILST ON ESCORT OPERATION 'DEMON', IN COMPANY WITH HMS WRYNECK TOOK OFF 700 TROOPS FROM TRANSPORT SLAMAT (WHICH HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY BOMBED AND WAS ON FIRE) IN THE GULF OF NAUPLIA, DURING EVACUATION OF BRITISH FORCES IN GREECE. BOTH DESTROYERS WERE BOMBED AND SUNK BY GERMAN DIVE-BOMBERS, WITH HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE.
