Simplified Wreck Survey
The HMS Solebay is a historic shipwreck located off the coast of Nevis in the Caribbean. The wreck site is positioned at coordinates 17 07.40N, 62 38.29W. Based on historical surveys and reports, the vessel was a frigate lost after running aground on a sandbank. Recent underwater investigations describe the site as scattered wreckage located in clear, shallow water. The debris field includes iron ballast bars, heavy chains, and approximately 14 cannons consistent with the age and specifications of the HMS Solebay. The site is characterized as well-broken, reflecting reports that the ship may have exploded before settling on the seabed. This location correlates with mapping data from an 1808 Aaron Arrowsmith chart detailing the anchorage near Nevis.
