CAPSIZED & SANK AFTER BEING HIT BY TWO TORPEDOES FROM U 557 OFF ALEXANDRIA. HAD EARLIER COME UNDER ATTACK FROM GERMAN DIVE BOMBERS FOR SEVERAL HOURS. IN TOTAL 469 LIVES WERE LOST. (DODS, WW2SL, SHIPS OF ROYAL NAVY, AXIS SUBMARINE SUCCESSES).
