Circumstances of loss

VESSEL, BUILT 1934 BY CAMMELL LAIRD. BRITISH NAVAL DESTROYER. TOOK PART IN OPERATION `PEDESTAL', ESCORTING A CONVOY TO MALTA. WHEN THE SHIPS WERE HEAVILY ATTACKED BY A COMBINED AIR & SEA FORCE. HIT BY AN AIRCRAFT TORPEDO & BADLY DAMAGED. ALTHOUGH TAKEN IN TOW, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SAVE HER, & SHE WAS ABANDONED & SUNK BY SHIPS IN COMPANY. COMPLEMENT OF 145, 5 CREW WERE LOST. (DODS).
