SIX BOILERS, THREE TURBINE ENGINES OF 850 RHP FOR 17 KNOTS. MACHINERY BY W DENNY & BROS. PASSAGE SALONICA FOR AVONMOUTH. WAS TORPEDOED AND SUNK BY U 55 WHILST FULLY ILLUMINATED AND CORRECTLY MARKED WITH THE RED CROSS. CARRIED 279 SICK AND WOUNDED PERSONNEL FROM GREECE, MALTA AND GIBRALTAR, 80 MEDICAL STAFF AND A CREW OF 207. DISCIPLINE WAS EXCELLENT AND 14 BOATS LAUNCHED WITHOUT MISHAP. ALL RECOVERED EXCEPT FOR THREE LASCAR CREW MEMBERS
