DIVE COMMENCED 30MTRS FROM STERN IN AN AREA OF BROKEN WRECKAGE WITH THE VESSEL APPARENLY ON HER SIDE. AT THE STERN IS A LARGE RUDDER AND PROPELLER TOGETHER WITH THE REMAINS OF THE HULL PLATING IN THE CLASSIC COUNTER STERN. DIFFICULT TO MAKE OUT THE NUMBER OF HOLDS, BUT THE BOILER SEEMS SET BACK FROM THE STERN. PORCELAIN BAROMETER FACE OF THE PERIOD 1860-1890 RECOVERED. MAKER WAS WHYTE, THOMPSON OF GLASGOW. RIBS ETC STICKING UP. STERN AREA CONTRASTS WITH THE BOW AREA WHICH IS UPRIGHT AND INTACT. NO SIGNS OF ANY CARGO. ESTIMATED SIZE OF THE VESSEL IS 800 - 1500 TONS, DATING FROM 1870 - 1890. RETAIN CINC. (A CORKILL, LTR DTD 30.7.00). NCA. HH100/351/19 24.9.02 HH100/351/19 24.9.02 DIVED IN 5430.723N, 0414.748W [WGD] USING GPS. WK SITS ON KEEL. SECTIONS FWD OF THE BOILER ARE FAIRLY COMPLETE WITH HULL PLATES JUST BEGINNING TO FALL OFF THE FRAMEWORK. THE BOW IS LARGELY INTACT AND HAS A LARGE WATER TANK. HOLD EMPTY OF ANY CARGO. REAR THIRE OF SHIP BADLY DAMAGED. HEAVY LIST TO PORT AND AT THE VERY STERN THE HULL, RUDDER AND PROP ARE LYING IN A HEAP. SEEMS LIKELY THAT TORPEDO STRUCK ON THE PORT SIDE ABAFT THE FUNNEL.
