The shipwreck of the SS Express main section is located in the waters off the northeast coast of Scotland in the North Sea at coordinates 58 49.431 N, 2 21.767 W. Examined using DGPS, the site features a least multibeam depth of 74.7 meters in a general sea depth of 79 meters, with a 0.7-meter-deep scour extending 1.5 meters towards 170 degrees. The structural dimensions of the main wreck measure 38 meters in length, 8 meters in width, and 4.3 meters in height, lying on an orientation of 035/215 degrees with the bow pointing towards 215 degrees. The bow remains intact while the vessel is partially buried towards the stern, and historical research confirmed the identity as the SS Express after reports established the vessel was cut in two. A separate debris field measuring 7 meters by 5 meters by 4.5 meters lies close to the southwest at coordinates 58 49.39 N, 2 21.80 W.
