Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck known as the Chloris (possibly the Ellington) is located off the coast of Flamborough Head in the North Sea at coordinates 53 52.052 N, 0 10.15 E. Sunk approximately 17 miles south by east of Flamborough Head, the intact wreck sits upright on its hull in a general depth of 27 to 31 meters. Modern multibeam sonar examinations and police marine diver surveys confirm the shipwreck measures approximately 57 to 115 meters in length, 14 meters in width, and stands about 4.9 meters high with a least depth of 22.1 meters over the site. Structural descriptions of the underwater obstruction detail a well-preserved upright hull oriented along a northeast-southwest axis with prominent bow and stern sections, a collapsed inner decking, an exposed propeller shaft with the propeller missing, a single main boiler with an adjacent donkey boiler, and evidence of a pitch cargo in the forward hold.
