Simplified Wreck Survey

The wreck of the CAWNPORE is located at coordinates 56 6.01 N, 4 53.355 W in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. Originally identified as a Degaussing Barge and later associated with torpedo trials, the vessel sank shortly after World War II. Historical surveys detailed the wreck lying on its starboard side with a length of 15 meters and a width of 10 meters. While earlier reports noted a largely intact hull with associated debris, a 2013 hydrographic survey confirmed the wreck of the CAWNPORE is now completely broken up and is officially classified as foul ground for navigation. The site is a known underwater obstruction and historical maritime feature in the Scottish coastal waters.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE SUGGESTS THIS WAS A TORPEDO TRIALS VESSEL WHICH SANK SHORTLY AFTER WWII. THERE ARE TWO TORPEDO TUBES, ONE ABOVE AND ONE BELOW LWL NEARBY. (HMS HYDRA, HI 40).
