Circumstances of loss
BUILT IN 1943 BY SIR JOHN LAING & SONS LTD, SUNDERLAND. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY EAST SUN SHIPPING CO. PASSAGE CALCUTTA FOR YOKOHAMA. WRECKED ON PRATAS REEF. BEGAN TO BREAK UP DUE TO THE PREVAILING HEAVY SWELL. CREW WERE RESCUED THE NEXT DAY BY UNITED STATES NAVY HELICOPTERS, HMS LOCH FADA AND HM SURVEY SHIP DAMPIER. ABANDONED AS A TOTAL LOSS. (MSD).
