BUILT IN 1853 IN QUEBEC. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY HOLDERNESS. PASSAGE LIVERPOOL FOR MONTREAL. STRUCK BY A HUGE WAVE IN ROUGH WEATHER OFF BARRA I WHICH CAUSED THE POOP DECK TO COLLAPSE UNDER THE WEIGHT OF WATER, CRUSHING AT LEAST 200 TO DEATH IN AN INSTANT. BROKE UP WITHIN 10 MINUTES. 348 LIVES LOST OUT OF 450 PASSENGERS AND CREW. (DODS, SIBI).
