Simplified Wreck Survey

Supermarine Spitfire wreck site located off the coast of Pevensey Bay, Sussex, at coordinates 50 48.036 N, 0 22.904 E. This underwater site is associated with historic recovery efforts for a crashed Spitfire fighter aircraft and associated tail wreckage previously identified near the Pevensey shoreline. Historical survey data from 2012 and 2015 using multibeam (M/B) sonar technology failed to locate the wreckage at these coordinates, leading to the wreck status being amended to dead or non-existent in subsequent hydrographic records. Despite previous reports of wreckage, current seabed surveys indicate no visible obstruction at this precise location in the English Channel.
