Circumstances of loss

13.4.1981 BUILT IN 1967. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY ARGYCO CIA NAV. PASSAGE LEIXOES FOR BARCELONA. RAN AGROUND OUTSIDE LEIXOES HARBOUR ON 13.4.1981 DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. WAS REFLOATED 9 DAYS LATER & TOWED BACK TO PORT WITH HER HULL SERIOUSLY FRACTURED. DECLARED CTL AND DRYDOCKED FOR SURVEY. SHE WAS THEN TAKEN IN TOW OF M TUG 'MANSCO 4' TO PIRAEUS. BOTH VESSELS WERE CAUGHT BY A STORM & DRIVEN AGROUND AT MONTALVO BEACH, N OF PONTEVEDRA BAY ON 2.10.1981. SHE REMAINED AGROUND UNTIL BEING REFLOATED ON 9.3.1982. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER REFLOATING THE VESSEL CAPSIZED & SANK LESS THAN 0.5M FROM THE GROUNDING SITE. (MSD).
